Before we even got to snorkeling, the ride itself was breathtaking. With my Sony A7R V and A7 IV, I was able to capture:

1. Cliffside Houses & Coastal Views

• The Virgin Islands are dotted with stunning homes perched high on the cliffs, and this tour gave me the perfect vantage point.
• Using my Sony 135mm f/1.8, I framed detailed shots of the architecture against the lush green hills.
• With my Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II, I captured wide shots of the coastline, showing how these homes blend into the cliffs.

2. Islands from the Water: Wide-Angle Perfection

• The Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM was ideal for capturing the lush hills of St. John rising from the turquoise sea.
• I used the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s ultra-wide lens (0.5x) to grab quick snapshots between camera shots.
• The GoPro Hero 9 mounted on the floating hand grip boat captured smooth, cinematic video of the underwater coral.

With plenty of space on the boat, I could move around freely to get the best angles.

Snorkeling Stops: An Underwater Photographer’s Dream

1. Swimming with Sea Turtles

One of our snorkeling stops was filled with green sea turtles, gracefully floating through the water.

• With the GoPro Hero 9 in 4K video mode, I captured turtles swimming with fish on their back.

2. Schools of Fish & Vibrant Coral

Another stop led us into a colorful underwater world, where schools of fish swam in mesmerizing patterns around us.

3. A Sunken Boat Beneath the Waves

Always a fun stop is a sailboat resting on the ocean floor, now home to thriving marine life.

• The GoPro Hero 9 captured the full wreck, with fish darting in and out of openings.
